David crockett biography summary organizer
•
This is a research organizer about Davy Crockett from our series: "Podcast from the Past." Many students in our time are learning from interviews they hear on podcasts, so this organizer takes on the format of a simulated podcast interview. Students take ownership by doing their own research. The questions are asked in the form of questions from an interviewer and students answer in the first person as though they are the historical figure. It takes a little imagination and creativity, but students get into it!
This assignment can be used flexibly in your classroom. The organizer can be assigned for independent research, but it can also work well for collaboration in pairs. One fun activity that is suggested is to have pairs research and then reenact the podcast interview for the class. Many students love that.
Note: You can also get this item in our American Pioneers Bundle that contains the same format for 6 key American pioneers.
It is also included in our Texan Revolutionaries Bundle that contains the same format for 5 key Texan historical figures.

On August 17, 1786, David Crockett was born near what is now Limestone, Tennessee. Davy (he preferred David) Crockett became emblematic of the early 19th-century Old West, nicknamed “King of the Wild Frontier.” Crockett initially found success in the military, opposing Native Americans in the Creek War in Alabama and Tennessee, and the British in Florida during the War of 1812. In the military, Crockett used his legendaryhunting and tracking skills to support fellow soldiers. Crockett became an enormously popular figure, and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. His support for his onetime enemies cost Crockett his political career. After losing his seat in Congress, he allegedly told his constituents “You can all go to hell, and I’m going to Texas.” He did go to Texas, which was then the Mexican state of Tejas. Crockett supported the Texas Revolution, in which Texans fought for independence from Mexico. Crockett was killed at the Battle of the Alamo. Davy Crockett’s popularity soared again in the 1950s, when the “Davy Crockett” television miniseries was a hit for the Walt Disney Compan
