    I was fortunate that enough to meet Professor Nicolaides is at his house in Denmark Hill. To say it was an honour and a pleasure would be underestimating how exciting and inspiring it was. Hope you enjoy the interview.
    Can you tell us your full name?

    Kypros Herodotus Nicolaides
    In Greek we always use the name of your father so it’s not really a second name Herodotus.

    Can you tell me where you grew up?
    In Cyprus until 17 and then I came to England after my father sent me to England to study. In Cyprus we do military service at the age of 18 for two years but he arranged for me to leave a year before and then I couldn’t go back for 10 years until they changed the law. When the law changed I went back and instead of punishing us they made us officers and I worked for six months in the army. In England I did a degree in biochemistry and then I went to medical school.

    Your father was a doctor.  Can you tell us about him?
    Two things really. First he was one of the very first doctors in Cyprus and certainly the first in our area.  He did his degree with no specialization. He arrived in Cyprus on a donkey, in an era pre-antibiotics, and stayed with people in their houses until they died and then went to their funerals. If they survived,

    Kyprianos "Kypros" NicolaidesFRCOG (born 9 April 1953) is a Greek Cypriot physician of British citizenship, Professor of Fetal Medicine at King's College Hospital, London. He is one of the pioneers of fetal medicine and his discoveries have revolutionised the field.[1] He was elected to the US National Academy of Medicine in 2020 for 'improving the care of pregnant women worldwide with pioneering rigorous and creative approaches, and making seminal contributions to prenatal diagnosis and every major obstetrical disorder'.[2] This is considered to be one of the highest honours in the fields of health and medicine and recognises individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.[3]
