Se inició en la actuación, promovida por su padre, a la temprana edad de 7 años, en teatros de Rosario, su ciudad natal. En 1924 se trasladó a Buenos Aires y comenzó su carrera profesional. Dos años más tarde incursionó en el tango, ámbito en el que se convirtió en una de sus voces indiscutibles con temas como: Puerta cerrada, Madreselva, Besos brujos y Ayúdame a vivir, que luego desplegó en el cine. Participó en Tango, la primera película sonora argentina. Considerada una de las precursoras de la imagen del país en el cine, fue dirigida por grandes directores del cine nacional, de México y de España: Mario Sóffici, José A. Ferreyra, Luis C. [edit]Delia De la Cruz was born in Mexico City. When she was one year old, her mother took her to Havana, Cuba, where she was raised by her grandparents until her mother brought her back to Mexico at age six. In school she initially studied teaching, before changing focus to dancing and singing.[3] She adopted the stage name Macaria after originating a character with that name on the television program Happening a go go.[4]
She has acted in numerous telenovelas, TV programs, films, and plays, including the sitcom Vecinos and the telenovela Un gancho al corazón.[2][5]
She has had romantic relationships with guitarist Javier Bátiz [es], entertainer Gualberto Castro, and comedian Polo Polo. Bátiz is the father of her son, whom she raised along with Gualberto Castro.[3][6]
